People really don't listen. People are just either not that interested in what you're saying, or they are too focused on their own agenda. It's ridiculous to see two people acting like they can’t really hear each other — by choice. There’s a proverb, “Listen, or thy tongue will make thee deaf” In " The Significance Principle ," authors Les Carter and Jim Underwood posit that we should listen past where the other person has finished. We should even pause before answering. Let them get their point, their story, their compliment, and even their criticism out completely. Then, before preparing your response, ask more about what they said. Get engaged. Understand what and why. WILL POWER Imagine you are a doctor. You have got two patients with the same illness I repeat EXACT SAME ILLNESS . You performed surgery on both of them and they have a recovery period of say 30 days. You leave them with nurses. Nurses check upon them regularly and you are updated. Now after two weeks a nurse came to you and said that it is an emergency with the two patients. You run to them and check and realize that one of them is doing great, really really great and he was going to be okay soon but the other, he just grew weaker and weaker. You checked up on him, as per his reports he was okay. Their reports were the same. But still, he was miserably weak. And probably he was going to die soon. Do you know the reason why this would happen? The answer is really simple. It is the WILL POWER . The first person was strong mentally and he had the desire to live and enjoy the rest of his life.
